Pianist Lynn Kidder has performed extensively in California and Washington as a soloist, duo-pianist, chamber musician and accompanist, in addition to working as a piano teacher, vocal coach and chamber coach. A performing member of the Berkeley Piano Club, she also plays with Celebrate Piano Ensemble! and on Munching with Mozart in Santa Cruz, on the Master Artist series of Performing Artists Society in Walnut Creek, and for the Etude Club of Berkeley. She has also played with the Santa Cruz Chamber Players and Santa Cruz Chamber Ballet.
June Coha is a vocalist based in Santa Cruz. She spent most of her early life immersed in the world of ballet in the SF Bay Area and Santa Cruz. When dance was no longer an option for her, she searched for another way to fulfill her creative passions. June was both surprised and thrilled to discover not only her ability to sing, but the great joy it has brought to her life. Though she has been involved in many different genres of music, including writing and performing her own songs, she has lately been focusing on her love of Jazz.
Linc Russin learned to play music as a boy in Florence, Italy, from a street musician named Alvaro. He learned to play the Italian love songs his father sang: O Sole Mio and Torna Surriento. He learned ballads and folk songs from his uncle Sam, who helped write the M.T.A. Song. While in Medical School, Linc played mandolin in a group accompanying folksinger Shlomo Carlebach at the Temple in Santa Cruz. While in practice as a physician in Massachusetts, he played in a very loud Grateful Dead wannabe band called The Boys and lost his hearing, but that didn’t stop him. Later, he moved with his wife, Suzanne, to Mountain Ranch, California. He began playing classical music duets with guitarist Gordon Rowland, and performed in a benefit concert for fire victims in Mountain Ranch and Railroad Flat. He plays most Saturday mornings with the ukulele group on the beach at the Crow’s Nest, and he plays once each month at a retirement home in Aptos.
Nick Royal’s first instrument was a ukulele in elementary school. In high school he started playing guitar, and 4 string banjo. At Oberlin College he got involved in folk music inspired by yearly visits of Pete Seeger, and he also got a 5 string banjo. In 1980 a friend at UCSC gave him a mandolin to sell, which he tried out and then bought. When his job at UCSC ended in 1993, he started learning to read music for the mandolin, with the help of Irene Herrmann, so he could at some point play some chamber music. Nick has been enrolled in the Classical Guitar Ensemble at Cabrillo College -20 guitarists & 1 mandolin player: NR. He also plays duets at the United Methodist Church with choral director and pianist, Colin Hannon. Often they will start off the Sunday service with a hymn or waltz.
