Joel Schaefer is a cellist, viola da gambist, and music teacher. He studied music at UC Santa Cruz, where he started to perform on baroque cello and viola da gamba. Since then he has enjoyed a career in the Santa Cruz and Monterey symphony orchestras, as well as opera companies and chamber music groups in California, Arizona and Argentina.
