Barbara Gorson Multi-use RoomThis Spanish conversation group meets every other Monday. Contact Patrick for materials before each session at kcirtap@cruzio.com.
This Spanish Conversation Group uses the format from Radio Ambulante Studios in New York. They publish a podcast every week about Latin American life and culture, providing a different theme for each meeting. The podcast is sent it to the group to listen to in advance on our own then discuss it during the meeting. A list of questions is also sent before the meeting to keep the conversation going. All levels of Spanish speakers welcome, yet a conversational level of Spanish is advised.
This series takes place is the Barbara Gorson Multi Use Room.
Registration is required to receive the materials in advance. Walk-ins are welcome. you may also contact Patrick at kcirtap@cruzio.com to request materials before the session.
We ask that participants agree to follow the following conversation guidelines:
- A space free from harassment and discrimination. The clubs are safe and inclusive spaces where no one is harassed or discriminated against for any reason.
- A safe place free from violence. Disagreeing on certain topics is normal, but there is no excuse for disrespecting others. Listening Clubs are not the place for personal attacks or violence of any kind.
- Everyone has a voice. We want to hear diverse perspectives and have a fluid conversation, so it is important to be concise when speaking.
- There is also linguistic diversity. Many Radio Ambulante listeners are not native Spanish speakers. Please acknowledge their effort and their desire to participate in the discussion.
- Respect the club moderator. The person moderating the conversation has dedicated time and effort on a purely voluntary basis to ensure everything runs smoothly; please respect their role as the discussion coordinator.
- We respect everyone's time. Clubs start on time. We want to be considerate of the time of volunteers, partners, and club participants.
- A diverse yet focused conversation. It is important to keep the conversation on track. We highly value contributions that bring new information (historical data, knowledge from your field of study, related experiences, etc.), but please try to keep them relevant to the topic at hand.
- One conversation at a time. We want to have a collective conversation, so please avoid interrupting the speaker or starting side conversations.
