Let's Go Firewise, Let's Get Wildfire-Ready

The Firewise program brings neighbors together to reduce wildfire risks through community organizing, outreach, and shared preparedness projects.

The Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) program complements this by focusing on the individual homeowner, offering education and assessments on how to harden homes against wildfire. Together, Firewise and HIZ provide a partnership that empowers both communities and residents to build resilience at every level.

Community-led Learning Presenter Bios:

Lindsay Speth serves as Secretary on the Fire Safe Council Board and has been active in the Firewise Program since 2021. She is the leader of the Alba Road Firewise Community and helped establish the SLV regional group, supporting existing Firewise Communities while encouraging new communities to form.

Sherry Heaney founded Brush Busters, a volunteer program that helps seniors and residents with disabilities clear properties at no cost. She also serves as a Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) assessor, educating homeowners on practical steps to make their homes more wildfire resistant.
